How do I book a session?
Booking your session is as easy as sending an e-mail to lavenderphoto@hotmail.com. I communicate primarily with e-mail in order to keep organized, but sessions can always be arranged by phone, (304) 690-1665. You will receive a confirmation e-mail and I will answer any questions you might have. I am happy to do consultations in person with prospective brides and grooms for wedding packages.
How do I pay for my session?
Session fees must be paid the day of or before the session, unless otherwise arranged with Toril. Sessions can be paid for with cash or check written out to Toril Lavender. Prints can be purchased online out of your gallery by credit card.
What to wear?
When planning for your session, clothing should be a top priority. It is of extreme importance and should be considered and coordinated carefully. Your clothing choices will be a big determining factor in the final outcome of your portraits. Clothing should be of neutral colors and have a timeless feel to them. You should avoid logos and loud bright colors as these do not photograph well and will draw attention away from the subject. Newborns and babies photograph best in their own skin. A simple diaper cover or less will result in the best portrait of your new baby. If more than one person will be included in the session, clothing tones and styles should match to be sure that attention is not drawn to the clothing instead of the subjects. The main focus of the portrait should be the person being photographed and not what they are wearing.
What to bring to a child’s portrait session?
The best photographs are made when kids are enjoying themselves. Fun accessories like hats or balloons or lollipops. Kids favorite toy and blanket is also great; anything that excites your child. A ball and bubbles work well too. Bringing snacks, drinks, wipes and a hairbrush or comb is useful. Let the photographer know if you have any particular poses in mind.
Do you have a studio?
I am mostly an on location photographer. I will be happy to come to an outdoor or indoor location of your choice, including your home. I have a small in home studio that can provide a suitable location for infants, but usually recommend alternate locations for all other sessions. I love the outdoors, and outdoor pictures are always the best – as long as the weather is nice!
What about bad weather?
If the weather is not suitable for outdoor portraits on your chosen day I am happy to work with you to reschedule or find a suitable indoor location.
Viewing Your Portraits & Ordering
Your portraits will be ready for viewing approximately one week following your session. At that time, you will be able to view all the portraits online in your portrait gallery. You are free to share your gallery with friends and family while it is online. The online gallery will remain online for a period of 21 days. Once it is removed, there is a fee of $25 if extended viewing is necessary.
Your online gallery will largely include color portraits but will also include a sampling of black and white portraits as well as some artistic and unique photographs to choose from.
